A Visual Feast for the Month of November
Artists & Makers Studios in Rockville will present two exhibits in three galleries for the month of November. “Collage D’Azur” Inspired by the colors of the Mediterranean Sea, Maire McArdle has created a series of mixed media collages that playfully interpret the vibrant landscapes of the French coastal towns of Nice, Cannes, Antibes, Villefranche-Sur-Mer and Eze. “Juxtaposed: Structure” features Pete McCutchen’s ethereal black and white photographs depicting the big man-made structures and lived in habitations of the city juxtaposed with Min Enghauser’s color photographs of the intimate, twisted and chaotic structures of the forest.

Maire McArdle – I am energized and inspired by studies in mixed media and abstract painting. Combining shades of blue with bursts of white, pink, red and yellow, the small abstract vignettes in this series depict an array of seaside textures and shapes that transport the mind to a breezy spot near the water. Min Enghauser – The eye of the camera, unlike eye of the viewer does not look at life subjectively, no judgment is passed, no value placed, no claim staked. In that it is the most like the Mind’s eye. When I photograph I try to detach. I don’t question the attraction I have to a subject – it’s an attraction so it’s primal. I expose the film and move on, not interfering, not questioning, not staking a claim. Pete McCutchen – I don’t photograph things for what they are at all.  Instead, I photograph things entirely for what else they are.  And then, what I can make them into. The subject as traditionally understood — “what is it” is pushed to the background, or even cast aside entirely.

These exhibits open Wednesday, November 4th, and continue through Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016.  Viewing hours are 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM Saturdays, and Sundays/Mondays by chance or appointment.
