Winter Student Theatre Programs

Winter Student Theatre Programs

Presented by The Highwood Theatre at The Highwood Theatre

The weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter, and Winter is on its way! We know you need something fun to do to make it through those dreary months, so why not spend them having a blast at Highwood!

After School Production Company
Mimicking a professional theatre environment, Highwood's student Production Company allows students in 4th - 12th grade the opportunity to rehearse and perform a fully-produced mainstage production. From student directed plays to elaborate musicals, Highwood's Production Company provides training in a safe, welcoming environment. The upcoming production for the Winter session is the classic American musical Gypsy, which tells the true story of infamous stage mother Mama Rose as she pushes her daughters into the spotlight with a surprising result. Rehearsals begin January 9th, and the schedule will be determined buy our conflict-free date survey. Participation Fee for this production is $500 + a $25 registration fee.
BollyX and Hip Hop Mash-Up Class
This class combines the hour-long, high-energy Bollywood-inspired dance workout with an hour of hip-hop dance technique.  Perfectly complementing each other, these two dance styles are fun, great exercise, and help performers in all areas including energy, performance, acting, agility, and fitness. The BollyX and Hip Hop Mash-up class is open to all students in grades 4 - 12 and will meet on Thursdays from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Classes begin January 12th and will run through March 2nd. Participation Fee is $240 (or $170 if you register for the class AND the production company).
Home School Production Company

The vision of the Home School Production Company is to develop and inspire a community of self-confident, insightful creators with a passion for collaboration, theatre, and the arts. This Fall, the Home School Production Company students have been working hard brainstorming and developing ideas to write their very own play. The winter/spring segment (January 13th – March 31st) will focus on rehearsing and producing that original play and will culminate in a final production in March. Students will rehearse, design and then perform the student-written piece in a full-scale production on the Highwood stage! The Home School Production Company is open to students grades 2-7 and meets every Friday from 12:30 – 3:30 pm. Participation fee is $250 plus a $25 materials fee.

Living Shakespeare Home School Class

Back by popular demand! The Home School class this winter is a continuation of our Fall “Living Shakespeare,” where students grades 1-7 get to explore the world of Shakespeare in this engaging, active class. Not only do students get a chance to read and act some of Shakespeare’s greatest scenes and monologues, they also explore the stories behind his work and what life was like in Shakespearean times. This class culminates in a final showcase performance. The Winter segment runs January 13th – March 3rd, and meets on Fridays from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Participation Fee is $200 (or $125 if you also sign up for the Home School Production Company).

Student Tech Crew
Highwood's Tech Crew is open to students in grades 4 – 12 who will meet regularly to learn about all aspects of Technical Theatre and create the technical elements of Highwood’s Mainstage Season of student and professional productions. Students will have the opportunity to work on all aspects of technical theatre and will get to choose their focus area to work on for each production (set, props, costumes, lighting, sound). Tech Crew members can choose to come one or two days per week: Monday evenings 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm or Saturday afternoons 12:00 pm – 2:30 pm. The Winter/Spring semester runs from January 9th – May 20th, but we offer open enrollment throughout the year, so you can join us anytime! Participation Fee is $80 a month for once a week sessions.
