#NastyWomenRep

#NastyWomenRep

Presented by Forum Theatre at Silver Spring Black Box Theatre

Forum embraces the #NastyWoman ethos with two DC premieres performed in repertory,  Monica Byrne’s What Every Girl Should Know directed by Jenna Duncan and Ruby Rae Spiegel’s Dry Land directed by Amber Paige McGinnis. What Every Girl Should Know/Dry Land  - aka the #NastyWomenRepwill run March 16 - April 15, 2017 at the Silver Spring Black Box Theater (formerly Round House Silver Spring), 8641 Colesville Road, Silver Spring, Maryland.

What Every Girl Should Know takes place in 1914 and follows four teen girls in a New York reformatory. Together they discover their sexuality and personal power, and reveal the horrifying events that led each of them to there.

Dry Land follows the unusual friendship of Ester and Amy. Both competitive swimmers, they’re struggling to stay afloat in their daily lives. Ester is plagued by self-doubt, Amy by an unwanted pregnancy.

Both works examine the lack of physical and emotional autonomy granted to women, and the devastating consequences that follow.  They embrace the idea that women are more than just objects of lust and beauty - they are full, complex beings - to use this fall’s catchphrase, #NastyWomen. By producing them in repertory, audiences will have the opportunity to explore these themes from various angles in two stories set over 100 years apart.
