Taste of Saigon is a family-owned restaurant that has been serving the Washington, D.C.-area since 1990. The restaurant was established by the Tu family, who fled South Vietnam at the end of the war in 1975. Then, as refugees, they relied on their close-knit family ties and their shared work ethic to rebuild their lives.
Led by Ma Tu, the family matriarch, the family worked together to realize their American dream. They strived to open a restaurant – much like the one Ma Tu had once owned in Saigon. Hoping to share their home-style cooking traditions with their new country, they worked for 15 years to open Taste of Saigon in Maryland. The Vietnamese, French-inspired fare served in this dining room is the same food Ma Tu prepared at home and at her well-known restaurant in Vietnam.
Taste of Saigon is a legacy that Ma Tu has passed on to the next generation. Representing that strong family bond is the restaurant logo. The green circle encompassing bamboo leaves celebrates family and good health. The red letters wish good luck for everyone. And “Saigon,” drawn in the art of traditional calligraphy, signifies the family’s value in their heritage.
Welcome to Taste of Saigon, a Tu family tradition.
