The Creative Forces Project Coordinator provides administrative and program management support for the ongoing Capacity and Community operations of the Creative Forces®: NEA Military Healing Arts Network initiative. The Project Coordinator works under the direction of the Americans for the Arts’ Creative Forces Project Director (Senior Director of Arts Policy and Impact and the National Initiative for Arts & Health Across the Military).

Creative Forces® is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts, in partnership with the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, and state and local arts agencies. Creative Forces is managed in partnership with Americans for the Arts and the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine. Creative Forces® is a registered trademark of the National Endowment for the Arts.

The mission of Creative Forces is to improve the health, wellness, and quality of life of trauma-exposed military service members and veterans, as well as their families and caregivers, by increasing knowledge of and access to clinical creative arts therapies and non-clinical community arts engagement. The initiative currently supports creative arts therapies, virtual arts engagement and community arts engagement programs for military connected populations1 in clinical and community-based settings2, as well as telehealth activities in partnership with the VA Rural Veterans Tele-Rehabilitation Initiative (RVTRI). The knowledge and products generated by Creative Forces activities are disseminated through the online Creative Forces National Resource Center.

The Project Coordinator works closely with an internal and inter-departmental leadership and operational team, which includes the AFTA Creative Forces Project Director and Project Administrator, as well as AFTA Finance, Meetings and Development team staff. The Project Coordinator also interacts and collaborates with an external leadership and project implementation team comprised of NEA staff and consultants responsible for driving Creative Forces’ work forward at the clinical sites and communities. The Project Coordinator provides project management support to the AFTA Creative Forces Project Director, and operational, and logistical support to the AFTA Creative Forces consultant team consisting of the Creative Forces Community Engagement Manager, Community Engagement Metrics and Evaluation Manager, NRC Director and NRC Content Manager. This includes - including maintaining communications through Microsoft Teams and Smartsheet, assisting with administration, monitoring contracts and expenses, tracking deliverables and reporting, and related data and project management functions.

In addition to working with internal and external project partners and consultants, this position will at times be required to interact with high level officials at the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs, as well as military bases and VA healthcare facilities, and other federal agencies. Ability to engage in appropriate protocol during communications and all interactions with these agencies and their populations is essential.
