About CCW and the context for this role:
Children’s Chorus of Washington (CCW) is an independent non-profit in its 26th operating season as the go-to professional-caliber children’s chorus in Greater Washington. Our chorus performs regularly with the National Symphony Orchestra, many of the area’s adult choruses, and other ensembles such as the US Army Band and New Orchestra of Washington, in addition to performing with other children’s choruses locally and along the east coast, and touring internationally. We draw students from DC, MD, and VA, and we serve grades K-12.
Over the past five years, CCW has successfully transitioned from “founder-led” to “first-generation” artistic director. In that time, there has also been an executive director transition. As part of these transitions, the Chorus’s development efforts have been organized and expanded through new processes to support the Chorus’s increasing enrollment and programming, in alignment with the artistic director’s artistic vision, and the executive director’s operational vision. With the implementation of new strategies and execution of new campaigns, we have achieved an increase in both the number of donors and amount of gifts. Last year, we adopted a new strategic plan which further guides the Chorus’s activities.
What we’re looking for:
The ideal candidate will have a love of music; heart for youth programming; strong written and oral communication skills; devotion to relationship-building; commitment to supporting initiatives that increase diversity, equity, access, and inclusion; comfort and proficiency with technology such as databases and spreadsheets; passion and respect for data; growth mindset; curiosity; attention to detail; ability to work independently and manage multiple projects; and a sense of humor.
Candidates with a willingness to learn new skills and grow into the role are encouraged to apply. CCW is an equal opportunity employer.
Your impact at CCW:
The Development Manager will serve as the point of contact for the Chorus’s fundraising and stewardship efforts across all types of funders. This role will be responsible for managing the organization’s annual fundraising efforts around individual giving, including our annual benefit; drafting and submitting funding renewal applications; identifying and helping to secure new major donors and government and foundation grants; and assisting with outreach and stewardship efforts. In addition, this person will serve on the board-chaired Development Committee, work with the board of directors, report on development efforts, and coordinate action items with board-level development volunteers.
You will have a significant amount of autonomy and responsibility in this role. It will be a good fit for someone eager to build their portfolio, grow an organization’s capacity and impact, build relationships within the arts community in DC, and get paid to learn.
CCW’s administrative team is small, but mighty. Every person is important, and every role is essential. This role will be expected to participate in organization-wide events such as our self-produced concerts, and other types of programming that may happen outside of normal business hours.
To apply:
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Initial interviews will be conducted via phone or video call, with an in-person interview with final candidates. The right candidate will start as soon as practical. Send submissions to jobs [at] childrenschorusdc.org. No phone calls, please.
