Four Wednesdays in September from 7pm to 10:00pm at Docs In Progress

This course is specifically tailored for students who have limited or no prior experience in editing. Over the course of four sessions, you will be taught various aspects of editing, including navigating the editing interface, importing and organizing media files, establishing an efficient workflow, utilizing tools for trimming, placing, and moving your material, incorporating still images, and applying basic transitions, titles, and effects. Additionally, you will learn about working with titles and graphics, gaining an understanding of the fundamentals of color correction, and finally, exporting and sharing your projects. For practical exercises, you will have access to provided footage to practice and apply your newly acquired skills.

TEACHING ARTIST: Birgitta Sunderland
Birgitta Sunderland is a DC area filmmaker who loves films and TV shows that take place in this city. In addition to her freelance work for clients including Five Guys, WTOP, and Storytellers, she’s taught editing, video production, and writing to everyone from tiny little people to senior citizens. Shebelieves that to be an amazing filmmaker, you have to have a good understanding of all aspects of production, from pre-production to post. She is currently working on writing a rom com feature, and is producing a web series about the people who live in Baltimore.
Birgitta earned an MFA in Film Electronic Media from American University and has been instructing editing at multiple institutions, including Arlington Independent Media, American University, and Fairfax Collegiate.
