The University of Maryland College of Arts and Humanities’ Marketing Communications Coordinator for the School of Languages, Literature, and Cultures supports the marketing communications priorities of the School of Languages, Literature, and Cultures (SLLC) and reports to the Assistant Dean of Marketing and Communications. The Coordinator provides direct marketing communications support to the SLLC Director; serves as the main point of contact for School faculty as well as program heads. The Coordinator is directly responsible for executing the School’s marketing communications plan and schedules, which support key events and priorities both internally and externally with a specific focus on crafting compelling content for print publications, website and social media, video, advertisements and grassroots efforts. As a content curator and creator, this position requires story mining and research, writing and editing in a variety of styles, and content project management following an editorial schedule. The Coordinator will drive awareness, participation, and brand recognition of the department, both on and off campus, in support of reputation and brand management, student recruitment, alumni engagement, fundraising and audience building.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public relations, journalism, a language, or a related field.

Experience:
Minimum 2 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field with proven results working either in-house or at an agency, planning and executing marketing and communications strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
– Superb writing and copy editing skills for web and print communication as well as superior organization and attention to detail;
– Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to deliver engaging presentations to large and small audiences at all levels of an organization;
– Experience managing complex creative projects as well as meeting and coordinating deadlines and deliverables;
– Experience with web content management and email marketing systems and various social media platforms;
– Proven ability to work independently and as part of a large collaborative creative, marketing, digital, and communications team;
– Superb interpersonal skills;
– Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment;
– Technical skills in Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and a willingness to learn new technology platforms, programs, and skills.

Preferences:
– Background in a language and literature other than English, experience, and interest in the promotion of languages and cultures or experience with humanities-based organizations.
– Demonstrated skill in effectively communicating with a multilingual community.
– Experience in a public higher education institution.
– Knowledge of project management software (e.g., Wrike, Asana) and web content management systems (e.g., Drupal).
– Demonstrated knowledge of AP style preferred.

Additional Information:

Starting Salary: $60-65k.

Physical Demands
– Expected to attend and work some events, which require some night and weekend hours.
– Sedentary work in an office environment that requires the ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and copiers.

– Visual acuity is required to perform activities such as preparing and reviewing information, extensive reading, and viewing a computer.
– Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
