The Production Manager plans and coordinates all production elements for a large scale, multigenerational musical in GW Lisner Auditorium in support of Washington Revels, Inc. (WR). This position requires a proactive, creative and welcoming person with skills in scheduling, coordination of a large team, and problem-solving, who can work with both professional staff and artists as well as a wide range of volunteer support staff.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Experience with professional production management or stage management
  • Familiarity with theatrical scenic, properties and costume building
  • Production budget management and contracting
  • Ability to manage unskilled adult and youth volunteers

The successful candidate will have, or swiftly develop, a holistic and comprehensive understanding of Washington Revels and act as a bridge-builder who supports an ever-stronger level of engagement. They are highly organized, detail-oriented, yet flexible, and can function effectively in a loosely structured but complex work environment that is constantly and rapidly changing.

General Overview

In close collaboration with WR staff, the Production Manager creates, maintains and facilitates schedules, staffing and budgets for the large-scale Christmas Revels production at Lisner Auditorium. During peak periods of production (including tech week, etc) the Christmas Revels Production Manager is the primary point of organization onsite for the production’s needs:

  • Create general production schedule
  • Organize and lead production meetings
  • Create and maintain a production budget
  • Contract paid positions, hire staff as necessary
  • Maintain overview and storage of props
  • Coordinate with scene shop and other off-site builders
  • Lead volunteers as necessary
  • Organize production transport (rental vehicles, coordinate loading/unloading, etc.)
  • Organize, lead, and disseminate notes from production meetings
  • Act as liaison and manage coordination and communication with Lisner Auditorium staff
  • Coordinate production billing, payments, etc.
  • Set specific schedules for all rehearsals
  • Organize filming, editing and release of streaming video


This position operates in a professional office environment with an all-Mac IT system, Dropbox cloud storage, QuickBooks Online, an integrated ticketing and AudienceView CRM platform. Communication tools include full use of Google Workspace and Zoom.


The Washington Revels Office and primary rehearsal location is Glen Echo Park, 7300 Macarthur Blvd, Glen Echo MD.

Larger scale rehearsals and events take place at, but are not limited to, Lisner Auditorium (Christmas Revels), Potomac School McLean VA (weekend rehearsals in the fall for Christmas Revels).

Props and Costume storage and workshops are offsite in Potomac, MD and Rockville, MD respectively.

Most meetings, organization, etc may be accomplished remotely; but onsite presence is necessary when in production.

Hours, beginning as soon as possible, will be approximately 20 hours per month (August-October and early November), with increased hours (approximately full-time) for five weeks from mid-November through December.


A stipend of between $6,000-$7,800. There are opportunities for more projects throughout the year as needed.
