Has your honor been challenged and now you must quickly learn the art of dueling? Do you want to learn the roots of modern fencing in its real-world foundation? Are you interested in examining how to make all of your other weapon-work more specific for future classes and shows? Then a Smallsword class is right for you!

Join Society of American Fight Directors’ Certified Teacher Jonathan Ezra Rubin of Fire & Ice Movement Arts for a 30+ contact-hour skills proficiency class in Smallsword, a primary SAFD weapon discipline, and explore both the fine precision and visceral grittiness of one of history’s most quick and deadly weapons.

This course will take place on Tuesday nights from 6:30-9:30pm from 9/19/23-12/12/23. The course will teach and provide opportunities for students to learn all of the required Smallsword Techniques for the optional Skills Proficiency Test on the final day of the course. During the class, students will learn a piece of choreography for performance that incorporates those Smallsword techniques, and if they so choose, have it adjudicated by SAFD Fight Master and Stunt Coordinator Richard Ryan (Vikings, Sherlock Holmes, Troy, The Dark Knight, etc.) for certification in Smallsword.

——

All classes, and test, to take place at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center – 4805 Edgemoor Lane, Bethesda, MD 20814.
