The New Orchestra of Washington (NOW) is seeking a music-loving, fun, and dedicated individual to join its team as a part-time Social Media Coordinator.

Position Description

The Social Media Coordinator’s primary responsibilities are:

  1. to develop strategy and create content to connect with the NOW community via its current social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube; and

  2. look for opportunities to increase NOW’s digital presence through other platforms such as TikTok and Twitch.

The ideal candidate is both creative and analytical, and has a passion for storytelling, music, and digital trends. This position collaborates closely with NOW’s artistic and operations team and reports to the Executive Director.

This is an independent contractor position with a flexible schedule of approximately 5 hours a week.

Due to COVID-19, we are mostly working remotely right now, but you are welcome to work in our office space in Rockville, MD.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Build and manage NOW’s social media profiles and presence, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and additional channels as deemed relevant.

  • Develop content calendars for each social media platform and produce creative, relevant, and compelling content.

  • Plan and design digital campaigns in collaboration with the NOW team to inform, engage, and motivate target audiences and grow virtual NOW community.

  • Design and implement social media strategies to align with NOW’s vision and artistic goals.

  • Actively respond to and engage in conversation with social media followers.

  • Identify digital consumer trends and insights.

  • Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies in digital and social media platforms.

  • Track, measure, and analyze all initiatives to report on social media return on investment (ROI).

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong collaborative team player in a dynamic, results-oriented, and entrepreneurial environment

  • Ability to produce highly creative content as often as necessary

  • Ability to maintain social media channels independently and cooperatively

  • Proficient in writing for multiple audiences and multiple social channels

  • Highly organized with great attention to detail

  • Ability to gather and analyze data

  • Knowledgeable in the principles in marketing and customer service

  • Knowledgeable in paid media for various social media channels

  • Ability to identify and define user needs

  • Ability to work and communicate information effectively to staff and social media users

  • Basic photo and video experience to help create content

  • Strong marketing language skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, English, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
