We are seeking proposals from artists to present exhibitions for available dates in 2023.

ELIGIBILITY

This call is open to all artists in the District/Maryland/Virginia Area who are 18 years of age or older. If an artist is already scheduled to participate in another solo exhibition during the 2022-2023 exhibition season at any Prince George’s County Parks and Recreation arts center or facility, they will not be eligible for consideration for this opportunity.

ABOUT WATKINS NATURE CENTER

Watkins Nature Center is located at 301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD 20774. Watkins Nature Center offers close-up wildlife investigation with its resident live animals, hands-on exhibits, interpretive programs, and special events. Live animal displays include insects, amphibians, reptiles, and birds of prey. The nature center also features indoor and outdoor ponds, a songbird feeding area, a butterfly/hummingbird garden, composting area, and an outdoor nest box exhibit. Nature hikes, campfires, animal shows, puppet shows, crafts, summer day camps, and other programs attract over 90,000 visitors each year. Specialty programs are offered for school groups, Scout groups, home-school students, and adults. Volunteer opportunities are offered year-round for teens and adults ages 14 and over. Admission is free, but nominal fees apply for programs.

GALLERY DESCRIPTIONS

The exhibition space at Watkins Nature Center provides approximately 95 linear feet of hallway wall space that provides an intimate and up-close viewing experience. Artworks that are in the size range of 11 x 14 inches to approximately 20 x 24 inches would be best suited for this space. A variety of mediums, such as works in drawing, painting, photography, or printmaking, for example, with an emphasis on wildlife and/or nature, would be suitable for this space. Artworks cannot be mounted directly on the wall and must therefore be exhibition ready to be displayed on a professional hook and wire display system (Walker Display System). Artworks must have the hanging hardware attached properly or be professionally framed.
