MOVE! Women's Rights from ISADORA DUNCAN to NOW

2020 is the 100th year anniversary of the 19th amendment–women’s right to vote.

Join the dancers, actors, and singers of Word Dance Theater in an artful, exuberant and immersive celebration of the Suffragist movement from 1920 to now.

On March 20, March 27, and April 3, audiences will be guided through the beautiful historic Whittemore House, home of the Woman’s National Democratic Club, as they witness a delicate weaving of Isadora Duncan’s groundbreaking historical dances for social justice from the suffragist period with contemporary dances created by award-winning Duncan choreographer and dancer, Cynthia Word. A live chorus led by virtuoso pianist and music director Carlos Cesar Rodriguez offers emboldening songs of suffragists then and now, and powerful theatrical scenes created from historical and contemporary writings of the women’s movement by Helen Hayes Award nominated playwright Jenny McConnell Frederick tell the stories of the suffragist journey from Votes for Women to #MeToo.

A Q&A session will follow each performance. A special champagne reception with light hors d’oeuvres will follow the performance on April 3.
