Wheaton is celebrating art and its diverse cultures with a parade and festival on September 19 from 10am-5pm. Come see the large floats, 45 tents of original art for sale, entertainment on three stages, plus food and a beer garden.
Everyone can be an artist and join the parade. Just push, pull, carry, wear or perform some art. At the end of the parade, the celebration continues at the festival with 45 tents of original art for sale and three stages of continuous performances from 12-5pm featuring MoCo’s top talent, including The Nighthawks and Strathmore artists Christylez Bacon, Becky Hill and the Trey Sorrells Jazz Ensemble. Olney Theatre’s National Players will be giving a sneak peak of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The festival will showcase performances by Einstein HS Visual and Performing Arts Academy, plus local dance groups like Urban Artistry, the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance, Wheaton Studio of Dance, and more. You can see the program of entertainment on our website. There will be more music by the Six Degree Singers, the Bog Band, Roadside Attraction and other local talent. You can enjoy food from Wheaton’s award winning restaurants and deli’s and a brew from AstroLab or True Respite breweries in the Beer Garden. The artists are too numerous to mention all, but in addition to more than 40 individual artists there will be exhibits by the Montgomery Art Association, the Washington Water Color Association, the Capitol Hill Art League, Gallery 209, as well as artists from the Wheaton Arts Parade Gallery. We will have balloon art, street chalk art, face painting and lots of art making fun for kids. The event is rain or shine and the parade starts promptly at 10am.
