Why I Vote

The blood, sweat & tears of many courageous women led to the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution on August 18, 1920, officially granting women the right to vote. In celebration of this momentous accomplishment, the City, in collaboration with the Women’s Caucus for Art, D.C. Chapter, presents “Why I Vote,” an art exhibition at the Activity Center from Sept. 11 – Nov. 16. This exhibit is open to the public during regular facility hours. As this is an indoor activity, face masks & social distancing are required. A virtual exhibit will also be presented online by the Women’s Caucus for Art, D.C. Chapter.

Issues explored in this exhibit include the environment & its many challenges, immigration, civil rights, women’s rights, the plight of the poor, gun violence, & the consequences of the pandemic. The exhibit was organized by Mary Weiss-Waldhorn, City Gallery Curator, & Sandra Davis, guest curator with the Women’s Caucus for Art, D.C. Chapter.
