The Spark Grant program provides grants for small, community-driven projects that create stronger, more connected neighborhoods.

This grant program is open to community groups operating in Takoma Park and non-profit organizations. A partial list of eligible groups includes:

  • Non-profit Organizations (501c3)
  • Buisness Associations (501c6)
  • Parent-Teacher Associations
  • Neighborhood Associations
  • Homeowner Associations
  • Tenant Associations
  • Other Community Associations
  • Youth Organizations
Program Guidelines
  • Funding requests must be between $500 and $2,000;
  • Projects must take place in the City of Takoma Park and benefit city residents;
  • Funding must be directed to a non-profit or another community organization or association operating in Takoma Park;
  • Individuals and for-profit businesses are not eligible for funding;
  • Organizations that are not currently 501c3 or 501c6 are still eligible for funding. However, please note that grant funds may be taxable.

Funding Decisions and Availability of Funds

  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis by a panel of current and former residents;
  • Projects that meet a minimum average score of 75% will be awarded funding;
  • Program funds are appropriated annually on July 1 and will be spent down on a rolling basis; When all Spark funds have been awarded for the year, the grant program will be temporarily closed to applications until the next budget begins.
