Open to all trans, two-spirit, non-binary, and gender-diverse artists of the Americas
Winning entry will receive a prize of US $5,000
Winning artwork will be accessioned into the permanent collection of the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas
Winning artwork, and ten finalist artworks, will be included in an exhibition in a gallery of the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas for approximately three months during 2023 or 2024.

Timeline: Exhibition will run in a gallery of the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas (201 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 20006) for three months during 2023 or 2024.
Entries Due: October 31, 2022
Selection Process: Winner and finalists will be selected by a four-person jury of specialists in art and gender identity by the end of 2022.
Notification to artists: Winner and finalists will be notified by email by the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas.
Delivery: Artworks will be transported by professional art handling companies to the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas. Transportation and insurance costs will be covered by the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas.
Reception: There will be an opening reception at the OAS AMA | Art Museum of the Americas on or near the opening date of the exhibition.

The OAS Program for the Universalization of Civil Identity in the Americas, Department of Effective Public Management (PUICA/DGPE), and the OAS Art Museum of the Americas (AMA) of the OAS Secretariat for Hemispheric Affairs (SHA), announce an open call to artists of the region to submit works addressing gender identity and expression, in order to stage an exhibition at the AMA. This program aims to strengthen and increase the visibility of the social, economic, cultural, civil, and political rights of trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people in OAS Member States.
Through this regional project, PUICA/DGPE seeks to increase knowledge of inter-American and international human rights standards on the right to gender identity and expression and its implications for civil registration and identification processes, to encourage fair and humane practices, to disseminate individual stories, and to make recommendations to the civil registries of the OAS Member States so that they are better equipped to facilitate changes to their internal gender identity recognition policies, processes, and procedures.
Trans, non-binary, and gender-diverse people throughout the hemisphere face generalized discrimination and barriers to access to health care, employment, justice, and political participation. Trans, non-binary and gender diverse people also face high levels of violence and discrimination motivated by prejudice. According to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), the forms of differentiation range from legislation that penalizes non-normative gender identities, to daily challenges that trans and non-binary people face in the public and private spheres.
According to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), trans, non-binary and gender diverse people are exposed to aggravated social exclusion, which in the region constitutes a phenomenon of a structural nature. Exclusion often seems to be legitimized by societies that preserve and normalize social prejudices against trans, non-binary and gender diverse people.
The IACHR has called on the States to move forward the promotion of public policies, legislation and affirmative measures aimed at promoting access and participation in cultural life without discrimination of trans or gender diverse persons.
The AMA seeks to provide a platform to make these issues more visible through art, and promote the work carried out by PUICA/DGPE in this area.
