Overview 
The Recreation Leader IV – Public Program Associate for Torpedo Factory Art Center performs diverse duties related to the coordination of developing, executing, and evaluating a successful and balanced annual roster of strategic, mission-based, engagement-focused programs for Art Center attendees. Programing includes “The Late Shift Art Nights,” “Holiday Festival,” “Art Safari,” and more. The position recommends new project initiatives and community collaborations. Candidate should have a working knowledge of community arts programing, non-profit or government management, and/or cultural activities, and capable of learning system processes. Among other tasks as needed, candidate will be responsible for ensuring high customer service. Additionally, the position will serve as a point of contact for artists and partner organizations. Duties are performed under the general supervision of the Reginal Program Director – Torpedo Factory Art Center.

Work hours will be on site – Wednesdays (minimum of 10am – 6pm), Thursdays, and Fridays, the second Friday of each month from 6-8pm or 6-10:30pm pending need, with the potential to flex Thursday and Friday hours to other days to include evening and weekend hours when required by the job responsibilities. Temporary:  Approximately 7 – 12 months with potential for longer term.

The Opportunity
  • Produce small and large-scale events throughout the Art Center and partner sites.
  • Support and help manage a year-round calendar of public programs.
  • Initiate metrics of events and new initiatives.
  • Liaise and represent Art Center with collaborators for events, including artists, tenants, musicians, performers, partners, etc. while providing outstanding customer service and vendor support.
  • Support the Public Programs budget.
  • Build support with partner organizations.
  • Work closely with event staff and volunteers in fast-paced events.
  • Reporting on events and public programs to artists and staff.
  • Coordinates volunteers for events and additional Art Center opportunities.
  • Support guided tours.
  • Update event listings on Art Center website and internal calendars.
  • Provide social media support for projects.
  • Coordinate with other Art Center staff, including Curator of Exhibitions, to insure seamless comprehensive programing.
  • Coordinate with Office of the Arts director of Events & Public Space Activation on cross programmatic offerings and support.
  • Assists with artist programing on and off site.
  • Follows procedures and makes recommendations for new procedures.
  • On select days acts as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the building (opening and closing the building and assisting with facility needs) and/or supports the MOD.
  • Participates in staff meetings, artists meetings, in-service trainings, sessions, and workshops.
  • Performs related work as required.
