The Scotland Juneteenth Heritage Festival is expanding to the Cabin John Village mall and the Cabin John Regional Park on June 19, 2023, with a wide variety of events including an Art Pavilion. To achieve the Festival’s mission of supporting and celebrating the Black kinship communities of Montgomery County, the Art Pavilion Coordinators (minimum of 2) will be tasked with setting the protocols and selecting the artists. In keeping with the remuneration offered all other coordinators of the other activities within the Festival, these will be offered as volunteer positions.

This is envisioned as a cash-and-carry sales event. Artists will be asked to pay a nominal space fee to reserve a spot in the Pavilion. Additional fees may apply if the artists do not own their tables and tents. Prizes may be awarded to the artists if the Art Pavilion Coordinators recommend various categories.

In addition to recruiting the artists who best serve the mission of the Festival, the Art Pavilion Coordinators will be expected to communicate to the Logistics Coordinator for the Festival regarding the numbers of tents, tables, chairs, signs, and other needs. The Art Pavilion Coordinators will also meet monthly with the Festival Steering Committee to provide updates on space needs, artist recruitment, and any other logistics needs. The Art Pavilion Coordinators will ideally offer suggestions for promotion, including personal networks, Internet sites and social media.

For successful candidates, this position offers a unique leadership opportunity in what will be a high-profile, media-rich environment. Other Festival volunteers and supporters include leaders in politics, business, sports, entertainment, and the visual arts. A primary backer of the festival is the Glenstone Museum in Potomac, as well as the Montgomery County government, Montgomery Parks, Cabin John Village mall, the office of the Governor of Maryland, the Washington Wizards and Mystics, Bethesda Big Train Base Ball, and many others.
