Though jazz is often viewed as distinctly American, the musical genre also thrives in Tokyo. With the help of a series of musical demonstrations, recordings, and videos, PhD ethnomusicology student Willam Scally introduces the contemporary jazz scene in Japan's capital, touching on issues of access, transnational exchange, and the generation of authenticity surrounding the musical scene.
