New Exhibition: Cocktails, Lipstick & Jazz: Life in the Age of Fitzgerald

New Exhibition: Cocktails, Lipstick & Jazz: Life in the Age of Fitzgerald

Presented by Montgomery History at Beall-Dawson Museum

Beaded fringe bounced to the syncopated sounds of jazz, while illegal hooch sloshed in long stemmed glasses. The bull market prevailed and it didn’t matter what you bought; stocks only went up. Names of the sport heroes still echo today: Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey and Man O’ War. On the surface, it was a glittering moment in time captured by F. Scott Fitzgerald in stories like The Great Gatsby and “Bernice Bobs Her Hair.” We will exhibit a cross-section of the period with fashions from Paris, speakeasy cocktails, red hot jazz and weekend recreations.

Don’t miss this exciting exhibit, which shows life in the 1920s like you’ve never seen it before! The Beall-Dawson Museum has been transformed into exhibition space, giving our visitors a chance to see some of the incredible items in our collection. Many of these objects are on display for the first time! This special exhibit is now open in the Beall-Dawson Museum and will close through January 15, 2017.
