Summer Musical Grades 3-12

Work with your peers to produce a high-quality Broadway musical in a welcoming, supporting environment.

Welcoming students with interests in any area of theatre - The Summer Musical provides all students with an opportunity to create theatre together through rehearsal, creativity, and collaboration.  Designed to be an immersive, hands-on theatre arts education program, led by a team of area arts professionals, this group of students will meet regularly to create and rehearse the summer musical as part of The Highwood Theatre's Mainstage Season of student-produced productions.

Students will have the opportunity to work on the production at a variety of levels (including acting, directing, choreography, and staging) and will be consistently challenged and inspired to take risks, do their best, and develop as confident collaborators and creators.

Open to rising 3rd - 12th graders
$400 Participation Fee
Please note: Students in this production should expect three rehearsals per week (determined by Dates Survey)
Rehearsals begin June 19 through July

How We Schedule Rehearsals

  • We set "potential rehearsal dates" for the Production Company (see below).  All rehearsals will be scheduled on those dates.
  • After you register, you get our "Dates Survey."  This survey lists all the potential rehearsal dates during the time period of rehearsals.
  • Families fill out the Dates Survey, marking days they can and cannot make.
  • We take that information and come up with a rehearsal schedule that honors all family's conflicts.

Potential Rehearsal Days for Summer Musical:
Mondays from 6:00 - 9:00 PM
Wednesdays from 6:00 - 8:30 PM

Thursdays from 6:00 - 9:00 PM

Saturdays from 1:00 - 4:30 PM

Parking Info

There is a large public parking garage located two doors down from our Silver Spring office and rehearsal space. Rates in the garage are $0.70/hour. Street parking is also available for $1.00/hour. We do not supply coins for metered parking near our rehearsal space. Please bring plenty of quarters or visit https://mobile-now.us/ to set up a mobile parking account to use in Silver Spring, MD. Parking is free after 7:00 PM and on weekends.
