Is Africa My Home: A 19th Century Debate on the Colonization of Maryland Blacks
In 1816 the American Colonization Society was established to settle free people of color in Africa. Over a 20-year period, this group helped over 1200 African Americans from Maryland and other states in resettling West Africa. Dr. Debra Ham will speak about the colonization movement and its aftermath.
