Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn in Rockville will present three powerful exhibits in three galleries for the month of April. “Discreet Objects” with Lori Anne Boocks, “Friend or Foe” with Aline Martinez, and “Finding My Own Voice” will fill the galleries at A&M on Parklawn. In this era of constant communications Boocks obscures and reveals meaning by presenting nuance and subtext in her multi-media works. Martinez explores the political, personal, expressive, sacred, and utilitarian perspective of human responses to life events throughout the ages through sculpted human torsos. Local artists participate in the second annual victims’ rights exhibit marking April as a month of remembrance. Resident artists will also throw open the doors of their studios for visitors.

Additionally Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville will present two exhibits in the main galleries for the month of April. “Cabinets of Curiosity” with artist Melissa Burley will be featured in the Main Gallery on the second floor. Burley combines reclaimed items that may include metal, glass, test tubes, furniture parts, automobile and bicycle components and then illuminates them with halogen or LED lighting encouraging preservation of our earth. “have a cow or a dog or a bunny or a frog...” with Seena Sussman Gudelsky will be featured in the Merge Gallery on the second floor. Squeezed out of clay, or captured in paint… animals and their personalities magically come to life in the artist's studio at A&M2. Playful loving, lively and fun, there’s something here for everyone. “Spring Forward” with the Montgomery County Camera Club in the hall, exhibits in New Master’s Gallery, Gallery 209, and artists’ open studios round out the evening.
