Glen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to present Aerial View. This exhibition features mixed media paintings by Kate Fitzpatrick, punctuated by the sculptural work of Sally Myers. Kate Fitzpatrick creates multi-layered, mixed media paintings that use maps as a collage material to address themes of place and identity. Through repurposed maps she creates abstracted images of current and historical geographies that have emerged along our waterways. Using a variety of media allows her to create complex textures and layers with paper, paint, and ink to depict various waterways as viewed from above. Though made from steel, Sally Myers’ sculptures fit well into nature. With her simplified rendition of plants and birds, the viewer can sense nature from an unnatural material. Intended as outdoor sculpture, the works evolve over time under the influence of the elements. Together, these works evoke landscapes and the confluence of their inhabitants as they celebrate the beauty of nature and symbiotic relationships of land, people and animals.
