Lorenzo Da Ponte: The Most Interesting Man in the World

Lorenzo Da Ponte: The Most Interesting Man in the World

Presented by Live & Learn Bethesda at Live & Learn Bethesda

There simply has never been another man like Lorenzo Da Ponte. If you saw a movie about his life, you would have to say its fiction! Da Ponte entered the world as Emanuele Conegliano, born into a Italian Jewish family in 1749. He later became a Catholic and then a priest, a poet, a notorious lover of all classes of women, opera entrepreneur, and factotum of all things theatrical. He is best known as Mozart’s librettist and wrote the poetry for his three greatest operas: Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Cosi fan tutte. This class will present the turbulent, but always fascinating life and times of Da Ponte as heard through the prism of Mozart’s operas. It is recommended that you keep your seatbelt buckled for the entirety of this class: it’s gonna be a wild ride!
