Glen Echo Park presents a concert and dance party with Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band in the historic Spanish Ballroom.
The Glen Echo Park Partnership presents Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band in the historic Spanish Ballroom. This band is irresistably danceable and you'll have plenty of room to "shake it" on our beautiful hardwood dance floor (110 feet by 70 feet). Dancing to live music runs from 9 pm - midnight. Doors open at 8:30 pm.
Chopteeth is a 12-piece Afrofunk orchestra exploring the common groove between the funkiest, most hip-shakin’ West African and American popular music on the planet. The core of the Chopteeth sound is Afrobeat: a big-band funk invented by Fela Kuti in 1970’s Nigeria. Afrobeat is a spicy stew of modern jazz, Yoruba tribal music and burning, James Brown-inspired rhythms. Chopteeth’s sets feature original compositions along with updates of African dance classics. Band members serve up lyrics in a total of seven different languages
Tickets are available for $15 in advance at glenechopark.org/dances. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $20 general admission / $15 students and Glen Echo Park Partnership Members. Parking is free and plentiful.
