Fleeting Moments: Waterscapes by Susan Shalowitz

FORCED TO FLEE: The Refuge Crisis - Katherine Janus Kahn
& Co.  -  with members of the Clay CoOp

(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn in Rockville is proud to present three exhibits for the month of October along with artists’ open studios. “Fleeting Moments: Waterscapes by Susan Shalowitz” Focuses on water’s endless allure. Its moods, as influenced by light and wind, are ever-changing, and vary from one moment to the next. Through the study of color, brushwork and composition, these highly realistic yet painterly works explore water’s unique contradictions. “FORCED TO FLEE: The Refuge Crisis” with Katherine Janus Kahn’s large format figurative works - the world is currently experiencing the largest wave of immigrants in recorded history. Refugees are running from war, climate disruption, and starvation. The exhibit issues a call to recognize our shared humanity and compassion, the basis of all religions. “& Co.” - with the Clay CoOp. The works displayed here by members who are masters of their craft are created by atmospheric firing methods.  This style of firing is nearly impossible to do alone, and most often requires the help of a group of people.  It is precisely this act of community that is the true beauty within our world, and is so integral to The Clay CoOp's philosophy. Words out Loud in the Compass Atelier, from 7-8pm with Philip Wexler, Rocky Jones and more will be followed by an open mic. Resident artists’ open studios will round out the evening for visitors at Parklawn.
