Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 2
Beethoven Symphony No. 6 in F Major (“Pastoral”)

“No one can love the country as much as I do. For surely woods, trees and rocks produce the echo that man desires to hear,” said Beethoven, whose intense love of nature is expressed in the “Pastoral” Symphony, most famously the depiction of a thunderstorm in the joyful fourth movement. Exotic sonorities permeate Prokofiev’s popular Violin Concerto No. 2, a work that reflects the many places the composer found himself as he wrote the piece, including France and Russia. The use of Spanish castanets in the third movement is a tribute to the country where the concert premiered.

Violinist Colin Sorgi “plays with utter conviction, a tour de force of stamina, virtuosity and rhythmic precision." -- Fanfare Magazine
