A little poetry is a dangerous thing. It’s 1757 and the world-famous philosopher Voltaire has fled the court of Frederick the Great, intending to publish a sensitive manuscript of the King’s poems. But Voltaire’s attempts to embarrass the monarch run afoul in Frankfurt, where he is arrested by the autocratic Baron Franz von Freytag and must scheme his way to freedom.
