The Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture presents Objects and Images: Stone Sculptures and Oil Paintings, featuring stone sculptures by James Natali and oil paintings by Sandra Fritter. Natali began his stonework as a laborer working on the construction of Washington National Cathedral. From there, he became an apprentice and then a journeyman stone mason. Natali was a stone “setter,” installing stone and marble on building facades, lobbies, and floors. Wanting to move into stone carving, after retiring he began working with Glen Echo Park’s Sculpture Studio. Sandra Fritter is a plein air and figurative painter. She prefers painting landscapes “in the moment,” rather than from a photograph. Her best work reflects the “dance” that happens when she applies color quickly, catching light and dark, warm and cool.
