The State is an innovative and interactive text-based performance that tells the story of activist Plamen Goranov, who he lit himself on fire in front of the Municipal Council of Varna, Bulgaria, protesting government corruption.
Forum is proud to announce the US premiere of The State, conceived by acclaimed Bulgarian theater artist Alexander Manuiloff.
The State tells the story of the last conscious night of Plamen Goranov. The next morning, February 20th, 2013, he lit himself on fire in front of the Municipal Council of Varna, Bulgaria, protesting government corruption.
A unique and interactive text-based performance, this piece challenges and engages audiences like few other works. During the performance, members of the audience become co-authors and players of the piece. The text questions how societies define themselves through their common values and asks what is necessary for people to live together.
Weekday evenings and matinees are $33.
