Artsy Vacation

Each day you will be taken to a new vacation spot from around the country!  Learn about different kinds of art and create your own souvenirs.  Morning projects repeat in the afternoon.

Diversity of Art

Study the diversity of American art from Native Americans through modern artists. Learn about Native American zodiac, draw your own totem pole, be a pop artist and a fashion designer. A variety of mediums will be used including painting with acrylic, tempera, watercolor, and collage.

Circus Theatre

Learn basic clowning and circus skills, then combine them with traditional theatre scenes to create a dynamic ‘circus theatre’ performance.  Skills learned include juggling, rola bola, group parachute & ball, hula-hoop, basic clowning, and more!

Explore Acrylic Painting

Use both traditional and non-traditional techniques to create artwork with acrylic paint. This is perfect for both the continuing young artist and those not yet familiar with working with acrylics.

Drawing from Life

Learn techniques to create realistic drawings from life, including still lifes, landscape and the figure.   Different dry mediums will be used.

Curious George

Young artists will explore the world of H.A. and Margret Rey in this camp full of art and books.  Each day a different book will be read and then the students will create their drawings incorporating aspects of the book.

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

Explore the world of Laura Numeroff, through both reading and art.  A different Numeroff book will be read each day with students creating drawings inspired from the book.

Magical Art World Tour

Travel around the world with us!   We will explore a variety of art techniques and genres from all of the continents.

The Little Princess, The Musical

Join Sara as the newest student at a girls’ boarding school.  Her wealth has entitled her to being treated as a little princess.  When her father encounters financial difficulties, she loses her status. Great dialogue between the headmistress, other girls and servants at the school.  Beautiful songs and choreography to please all.

Art Into Textiles: Fabric Design & Silk Painting

Inspiration from in and out of the garden will be the guide for drawings, block prints and watercolors that will be transformed into works of art on fabric and silk.  The end results are amazing.

Junior Princess

Everybody loves to play dress-up!  We will learn to draw ourselves in “glamour” wear with a different emphasis each day.

Junior Under the Sea

Mermaids, fish, shipwrecks and even sharks will inspire the drawings from under the sea.  The final day will combine subject matter into one larger drawing with a story of its own.

Drama Kids

Drama Kids perform original stories using props, music, costume pieces, a big space, and their imaginations.  The children will go on a different adventure each day creating action and drama through the tools of dramatic play.

Cartooning Craze

Ever wish you could sketch up a scene and create a comic strip of your own? Come learn the art of cartooning, the language and style of those text bubbles and more. End this week with great skills and cartoon book brought to life through watercolor.

Learn techniques to use colorful pastels to create beautiful artwork.  Each day will bring new skills and challenges.

Audition Techniques – How to Get the Part

How do those actors get those great parts?  This summer intensive will help each student find and prepare audition materials that work.  By the end of the week, the young actors will have greater confidence and one or two solid monologues when going for that perfect part.

Create works in a variety of media inspired by your favorite children’s stories.  We will read a different story and author every day. Morning projects repeat in afternoon.

Printmaking

Discover the fun of printmaking, and use your designs in projects to create collages, cards, wrapping paper, bookmarks, and matted prints. Students need to provide a white t-shirt for a final project.

Basics of Photography

Willy Wonka

Grab a golden ticket and join Charlie, Willy Wonka and August Gloop, Veruca Salt, Violet Beauregarde, Mike Teavee, along with the Oompa Loompas on their adventures through the chocolate factory.  Singing, dancing, acting … you will do it all during this two-week theatre intensive.

Mythical and Real Sea Creatures (2D/3D)

Join us under the waves,  exploring  mythical beasts and real sea creatures, creating them in both clay and watercolor.

Fashionistas

Have fun creating wearable items such as hats, belts, bracelets, rings and other accessories using both new and recycled materials.  Learn the art of fashion and recycling as you design and make your own pieces.  There will be a fashion show the last day!

Paint with Non-Traditional Materials

Spend a fun week creating amazing effects with paper tubes, cotton swabs, bubble wrap, forks, string, straws, plastic wrap, and bottle caps to apply and manipulate acrylic paint.

Shall we just pop into a chalk painting and enjoy the adventures and disasters of the Banks family?   Mary Poppins, her friend Bert and other characters hope so!  This musical is filled with wonderful music, choreography and characters.

Introduction to Photography

Learn how to operate a digital camera to take and make photographs of all kinds.  Students will visit a variety of locations and learn how to handle cameras in the field and shoot like a pro.  Students must provide a camera (digital single lens reflex or mirrorless) and a clean memory card.

AUGUST 6 – 10

 

Studio Photography

Students learn how to process, edit and develop photos using Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop, working towards their own personal portfolio.   There will also be the opportunity for working in a studio setting.  Students must provide a camera (digital single lens reflex or mirrorless) and a clean memory card.

AUGUST 13 – 17

 

Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, The Musical

This story takes place in 1903.  Rebecca’s joy for life inspires her two stern aunts to embrace her enthusiasm for life.  Rebecca, her aunts and friends gather together to express a wonderful message filled with songs, dialogue and catchy choreography.

* There will be an exhibit or performance with a reception on the last day of each summer art intensive.
* All summer art intensives may include some outdoor activity.

* Full day programs for students entering 2nd grade and above.
* Students attending full day programs need to bring a lunch that is nut-free and does not need to be refrigerated.  All students should bring nut-free snacks and water bottle.
* Refund requests for camps made on or prior to May 14 are subject to a $10 processing fee per session.  Requests made after May 14 will be subject to a $30 processing fee per session.  No refunds or exchanges will be made within 30 days of the start of an Arts Barn camp or extended day program. No refunds will be made after a City or Arts Barn camp has started. A $10 withdrawal fee per session will be charged for cancellation of extended care.
