Master classes and lessons for Middle and High School students incorporating technique, sight reading, chamber music and musicianship will be led by National Philharmonic players and other renowned faculty. A Junior Institute is for younger students.
Junior and Senior Institutes (formerly Middle and High School) join National Philharmonic principal players and other distinguished faculty for a challenging and exciting chamber and orchestral music program this summer. Offered for one or two weeks, the Senior Institute Orchestra, led by National Philharmonic Maestro Piotr Gajewski, has been cited by The Washington Post as a “precise and elegant ensemble.” The one-week Junior Institute Orchestra, led by National Philharmonic Associate Conductor Victoria Gau, provides the same intense and high quality experience for younger students. While Summer String Institute students work on ambitious repertoire to develop true professionalism, they also enjoy camaraderie and the adventure of making great music. Prep Institute: Under the direction of local youth orchestra conductor and educator, Jennifer Van Petten, rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders will engage in a weeklong journey focusing on enriching the orchestral, chamber and solo musician. Master classes and lessons incorporating technique, sight reading, chamber music and musicianship will be led by National Philharmonic players and other renowned faculty.
