Gallery Exhibit: Uncommon Characters

Presented by City of Gaithersburg Arts and Events at The Activity Center at Bohrer Park

The City of Gaithersburg presents “Uncommon Characters,” an exhibit showcasing a diverse group of local muralists, street artists and illustrators, including Stephen Blickenstaff, Electra Bolotas, John Detrich, and Kelly Towles. The exhibit will be up from November 17, 2017, through January 28, 2018, at the Activity Center at Bohrer Park, 506 South Frederick Avenue, Gaithersburg, Maryland. Viewing hours are Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guest curator Dylan Evans has invited a unique group of artists to participate in the latest exhibit at the Activity Center featuring urban art with pop culture, characters and caricature themes. Stephen Blickenstaff is a graphic designer, artist and musician who created one of punk rock’s most iconic album covers, the Cramps Bad Music for Bad People. Featured artists also include Washington, DC high school art educator Electra Bolotas, illustrator and graphic designer John Detrich, and well-known Washington, DC muralist Kelly Towles.

“Through a variety of styles and mediums, the artists bring characters alive who may be unfamiliar, but are unforgettable,” says Art Curator Mary Weiss-Waldhorn. “We think this is a perfect exhibit for teachers to bring their students to be inspired and to come up with some of their own ‘Uncommon Characters’ themselves.”

Please note that all images are copyrighted by the artists and most of the artwork is for sale.
