The Opioid Crisis: Not In MY Backyard is a moving theatrical performance and panel discussion focusing on the relevant and disturbing topic of opioid addiction.
Peace Mountain Theatre Company (PMTC) is proud to bring this program to the area for the first time. “The Opioid Crisis: Not In MY Backyard” will feature 3 components:
1) A performance of Tom Kelly’s moving play, The Empty Chair. The setting is a counseling center for teenagers recovering from substance abuse. After one of their peers has just died of an overdose, the atmosphere is tense and uneasy as each young person speaks about his or her memory of the teen who died. The dramatic monologues tell us a great deal about each speaker and the terrors of drug abuse.
2) Panel Discussion of Experts including a Montgomery County law enforcement officer, a recovered opioid addict, the father of a son who overdosed, and the Director of Cornerstone Montgomery, a provider of behavioral health services in Montgomery County, MD.
3) Q & A between audience and panel of experts
Tickets are $10 per person, all ages. Purchase tickets in advance or pay at the door.
