Dance Around The World and into the Stars With Us This Summer!
Spirits of the Monarch Butterfly
During a journey through traditional Mexican Folklore, students will explore the story of Uncle Monarch and the Day of the Dead (Dia del muerto) written by Judy Goldman, a holiday which celebrates the spirits of loved ones in Mexican culture through dance, Spanish language and songs. Students will explore the global mystery of Monarch butterfly and their nearly 600 miles of flight around the globe as well as learn about how they are believed to be the souls of the departed in Mexican tradition. Come join us as we take flight with the Spirits of the Monarch Butterfly
Come to CityDance School & Conservatory at Strathmore and travel to the far reaches of your imagination!
Created by Lorraine Spiegler, Artistic Director of the CityDance School and Conservatory, CityDance’s themed children and youth camps offer learning and fun through culture and creativity. Young dancers learn multi-cultural myths and themes from around the globe and are invited to explore how the tales relate to their daily lives. They take daily classes in ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop and world dance forms and learn challenging choreography in multiple styles. Dancers imagine, improvise and express themselves through the creation of their own dances as well. Dance, ideas, cultural themes, music, visual art and poetry are woven together in a final performance for family and friends.
An Extended Care Program is available from 3-5pm. Regsiter online for a fee of $90/week and $180/two weeks.
