The Merry Widow

The Merry Widow

Presented by Victorian Lyric Opera Company at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre

While touring Europe, the fabulously wealthy widow Hanna Glawari of the minor European nation of Pontevedro, reunites with her former lover, Count Danilo. They still love one another, but Danilo’s pride won’t let him propose for fear of being branded a fortune hunter. The sparring between the two lovers drags in everyone around them, from embassy staff to the locals. And to complicate matters, their little nation’s economic future hangs on the outcome!

Composed by Franz Lehár
Original Libretto by Victor Léon and Leo Stein
New English adaptation by Quade Winter

Directed by Madeleine Smith
Music Directed by Joseph Sorge
