The Glen Echo Park Partnership is pleased to present The World in Infrared: Landscapes by Sheila Galagan. Local photographer Sheila Galagan offers a selection of photographs shot using infrared capture, an unusual method that when printed in black and white produces striking dark gray skies and white vegetation. Galagan's photographs, mostly landscapes, are taken in local natural settings often with some man-made components. Most of her images are shot with a digital camera modified to respond to near-infrared light. There are also some images taken the old-fashioned way with black and white infrared film. Some of the digital images have textures applied to them to add a further sense of depth. The film images have been printed using the lith printing technique, which uses certain papers and chemicals to produce a similar effect to textured digital images. Galagan has taught photography in several places, including Glen Echo Photoworks and Montgomery County Public Schools. She is also a member of f11, a Women's Photography Collective, which exhibits locally.
