Immerse yourself in ballet, modern, and jazz techniques, and learn choreography from a guest artist in this full day camp designed for the focused dancer. Dancers in grades 9-12 interested in a Dance Institute setting or already participating in the award-winning Youth Dance Ensemble program are encouraged to attend. Dancers will start each day with somatic conditioning, ballet barre and center exercises, followed by an intermediate level modern class. After lunch, students will have jazz technique and conclude the day with with rehearsal. Rehearsal will be led by a guest choreographer who will set a piece to be performed in the final demonstration. Students will work with multiple faculty members during camp to strengthen technique in essential dance practices, improve awareness of movement approaches, and participate in a dance making process. Participation in this camp is recognized by the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) point system of .5 points per day of camp. Please join us on the last day of camp for an in-studio class demonstration for friends and family. Prerequisites/Level: At least 2-3 years of prior training in ballet and/or modern dance required to attend this camp. Recommended Attire: Ballet attire required for morning sessions. Ladies must wear a solid colored ballet leotard, pink or flesh colored tights and ballet shoes with hair neatly pulled back. Gentlemen wear a form fitting white t-shirt with black ballet leggings and shoes. For modern technique, jazz technique, and rehearsal we recommend students bring warm ups that do not restrict movement to wear over ballet attire.
