Enjoy an evening of live music with Alif Laila, an Indian classical sitar performer, composer, teacher and artistic director. She was trained in Dhaka, Bangladesh by Mir Qasem Khan, nephew of the legendary maestro, Allauddin Khan.
Laila has performed at the Kennedy Center and Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. and has performed internationally as well. She has performed and recorded with world-renowned tabla (Indian classical drums) artists including Anindo Chatterjee and has released eight sitar CDs. She has produced two DVD'S in Indian classical sitar. Her latest album, with world percussion, is called ‘Ekavali’ (the connecting thread). She established her music school, ‘Sitar Niketan’ in February 2015.
Alif will be accompanied by Suryaksha Deshpande, an accomplished tabla player. This concert is made possible with a Maryland State Arts Council Touring Artist Grant.
The Bumper Car Pavilion is completely covered; concerts will be held rain or shine. Our cafe, Praline at Glen Echo, will be open, or you can bring a picnic dinner. The Dentzel carousel will be open from 7 - 9 pm, $1.25/ride.
