The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 visible meteors per hour at its peak.
Our annual meteor watching party is always a lot of fun. Bring blankets and chairs to sit or lie out on the lawn watching for meteors. The telescopes will be out for skywatching as well. We do ask people to keep children close for this program as it is dark and watchers will be spread out on the ground.
**This program is weather permitting so please check the facebook page before arriving for last minute announcements**
SOME SPECIFICS: The park will be dark, but please don’t bring a bright flashlight; you can bring a red light because it will be less intrusive to watchers. Also, adjust the brightness on any electronic devices. (Red cellophane will be available to cover any white light flashlights.) No running water available in the park.
PARKING: Use the field at the corner of DeSellum at Route 355. Enter the lot on DeSellum. It is a two block walk to the park. Handicapped parking available at Observatory Park.
WEATHER PERMITTING AS ALWAYS– this includes cloud cover as well as inclement weather. Last minute announcements will be posted on the museum’s facebook page
