Documentary Interviewing Skills Bootcamp

Documentary Interviewing Skills Bootcamp

Presented by Docs In Progress at Docs In Progress

Conducting an on-camera interview can be challenging. On one hand you want to make sure that the technical aspects are under control, so you’ll deliver footage that is visually and aurally attractive, and on the other hand your goal is to capture the true spirit of the person you’re interviewing by making sure that the process is not only effective but also safe and respectful for the person who is being interviewed.

In this one-day documentary interviewing skills bootcamp, you will learn how to create a comfortable environment for an interview. You’ll learn about the technical aspects when setting up an interview (camera/sound/visualization, dos and don’ts while interviewing) and strategies for managing the emotional/psychological tenor of the interview in specific situations (for example: interviewee is reveling a story for the first time, has been traumatized or breaks down during the interview).

The workshop will also have a hands-on section in which we’ll do a camera/sound/lighting set up for a formal interview.

Class time will include a break for lunch.
