Getting Started: Budgeting For Documentaries

Getting Started: Budgeting For Documentaries

Presented by Docs In Progress at Docs In Progress

A budget is an important planning tool for documentary films. It is also a necessity if you are planning to fundraise for your film. Far from numbers alone, the budget is another way of telling the story of your film.  In the first part of this session, we will go over the elements which make up a documentary budget, different approaches to budgeting, and how to keep your budget realistic but flexible so that it can adapt to the realities of filmmaking. You will also receive a template for creating your own documentary budget. In the second half of the workshop, we will look at a case study of City of Trees with Lance Kramer from Meridian Hill Pictures. It is highly recommended you read Lance's article from Documentary Magazine ahead of the workshop.
