Bring the whole family and spend a festive holiday evening with Queen Elizabeth the First and Shakespeare’s favorite Fool!
Spend a festive holiday evening with the Queen—Elizabeth the First, that is! The year is 1599. England is swept up in a flowering of music and drama and Will Kemp, master Shakespearian actor and fool, has become an overnight sensation by Morris dancing from London to Norwich in just nine days! The Queen is also on the way, and the locals enlist Kemp’s help to prepare a Winter play worthy of Her Majesty. But Elizabeth has left the trappings of court far behind—and she has much more rustic entertainment in mind.
Merry mummers meet A Midsummer Night’s Dream in this boisterous blend of high and low, city and country, art and folk. Our cast of over 100, ages 8-88, is joined by guest actors Mark Jaster and Sabrina Mandell, with Katrina Van Duyn as Queen Elizabeth and the world-renowned early music ensemble Piffaro: The Renaissance Band. Bring the whole family and enjoy rousing carol sing-alongs, dancing in the aisles, children’s singing games, the captivating Abbots Bromley horn dance, and the glorious music of the Washington Revels chorus and brass. Welcome Yule!
