One of the most distinguished piano trios in North America, the Newstead Trio’s (Michael Jamanis, violin; Sara Male, cello; Xun Pan, piano) performances are personified by warmth and depth of expression. Concert will include holiday favorites.
After twelve years together, they have performed for audiences throughout the United States, Canada, Italy, Hungary, Singapore, and China, where they gave their concerto debut performing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto with the Shenzen Symphony Orchestra.They made their New York debut at Carnegie Hall. They have been broadcast live on radio and television.
The Newstead Trio’s innovative and uniquely accessible concert programming combines traditional piano trio literature with more contemporary works. These presentations are characterized by a dramatic variety that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of audiences worldwide. They have also commissioned numerous works by widely respected composers and have included a world premier performance on three of their CD’s. Both Robert Starer and Chinese born composer Chen Yi have dedicated works to the Newstead Trio, who have given the world premieres of four 20th century works: Chen Yi – Tunes from My Home, Gerald Chenoweth - En Blanc, Gris and Noire, Thomas Lanese - Piano Trio 1978, Ping Jin - Xipi, Themes From Peking Opera and Robert Starer- Episodes. Prince Productions is recently released the fifth CD by the Newstead Trio, featuring two trios by Mendelssohn in honor of his 200th “birthday.”Highlights of the season include a four-city tour in China, a week long residency at Dartmouth College and numerous performances in the United States, including California, Florida and Texas. The Newstead Trio will also be recording a CD devoted to Mozart piano music.
