Whether persisting, resisting, or just existing, women have played a powerful role in music as performers, composers, conductors, collaborators or muses. The 2018-2019 Levine Presents season celebrates women in all their musical roles.
Hailed as the Queen of the Organ, Shirley Scott was a staple in the Philadelphia jazz scene and was one of the first women in jazz to build a successful career on the Hammond organ. This concert will celebrate Ms. Scott's enormous talent and influence on soul jazz.
Featuring: Tim Warfield* (saxophone), Tim Thompson* (trumpet), Paul Bratcher (organ), Manny Arciniega and Mark Hunsberger (percussion)
*members of Shirley Scott's band
