Arturo O'Farrill

Arturo O'Farrill

Presented by Strathmore at AMP by Strathmore

Grammy-winning pianist, composer, and founder of the nonprofit Afro Latin Jazz Alliance, Arturo O’Farrill is something of a cultural ambassador. It’s in this way he proudly carries the torch of his father, composer-arranger Chico O’Farrill. The elder O’Farrill left his home in Havana in 1948 for New York City where he led the Latin Jazz revolution collaborating with artists like Dizzy Gillespie and Machito. By melding the drama of big band jazz with the culture of Latin music, the younger O’Farrill’s critically acclaimed performances have established him as the standard-bearer for creative interpretations of Latin jazz greats, as well as the driving force behind new commissions from modern jazz’s most talented composers and arrangers.
