Bel Cantanti Opera opens its 2019-2020 season with a concert of art songs by four women composers: Alma Mahler, Clara Schumann (Wieck), Pauline Viardot-Garcia and Fanny Mendelssohn.
Their music is not known as widely as the music of the men in their lives: Gustav Mahler, Robert Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn and Frederic Chopin. These art songs were written for voice with piano accompaniment. But in this concert the songs will be orchestrated and singers will perform them, accompanined by cello, piano, harp, oboe and organ.
The concert includes poetry reading, projections of the fine art of the beginning of 20th century. In collaboration with the Olney Ballet.
