Lyrical Music and a Small Swan

Lyrical Music and a Small Swan

Presented by Rock Creek Chamber Players at St. Luke's Church

Our season opens with a top-notch concert you won't want to miss.

We begin with Dvorak's second piano quartet. It combines bold, sweet, romantic, and folkloric elements into a brilliant whole. Our performers are Carolyn Wu, violin, Andrew Schwartz Crane, viola, Taka Ariga, cello, and pianist John Sutherland Earle.

After intermission we welcome a new performer to our series, Jessica Swink-Stecklein. Jessica is a lyric coloratura soprano. In her distinguished career she has been a Resident Artist with the Los Angeles Opera, winner of the National Symphony's Young Soloists Competition, and a Domingo Cafritz Young Artist. She has performed roles with the Washington National Opera. Together with pianist Adelaide Edelson, she will perform, among other works, selections from operas by Mozart and Puccini, and "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady.

What about the small swan, you ask? Taka Ariga and John Earle will play a short work by young American composer Keane Southard. It's titled, here it comes, Swan Song. This five-minute work, in its Washington area premiere, will not sound like any other swan you've ever encountered.

Free. Family-Friendly. Never Stuffy.
